Scope and suitability

Clear about what coaching offers.

Choosing the right kind of support starts with understanding what each kind offers. Here’s what you can expect from coaching with Ground & Horizon, and what sits outside it.

What coaching offers

Ground & Horizon provides life coaching and mentoring for adults. The focus is on reflection, values, decisions, priorities, planning and practical action, often during or after a life transition. The work is collaborative, with goals, review points and an anticipated finish agreed together.

What it doesn’t offer

Coaching isn’t counselling, psychotherapy, diagnosis or treatment of mental health conditions. It doesn’t include trauma processing, grief therapy, couples therapy, crisis care or an emergency service, and it isn’t a substitute for medical, legal or financial advice.

Talking about difficult experiences can be part of reflecting on your life, but it doesn’t turn coaching into one of those services.

Finding the right fit

A life event on its own, such as a loss, a separation or a move, doesn’t decide what kind of support is right for you. What matters is what you’re looking for and how you’re managing. We talk about suitability in the free discovery conversation and keep it in view throughout.

If your needs fall outside coaching, sessions may not go ahead or may pause, and we can talk about seeking support from an appropriately qualified professional. Finishing early, or choosing a different kind of support, is always welcome.

Your choices

You remain responsible for your decisions and actions. Coaching offers structure, questions and support; it can’t guarantee particular outcomes.

Before coaching begins

In the initial full session, we go through the scope of coaching, consent, privacy and its limits, practical arrangements and suitability, and there’s time for your questions before you decide whether to go ahead. This page is an overview, not a service agreement.

Training

Matt is currently studying a Diploma of Counselling. Ground & Horizon offers life coaching and mentoring, not counselling or psychotherapy.
